The PUP view on health care is based around the idea that accessible, affordable, high quality health care is part of the necessary dividends of democracy. We intend to make it a reality for all Nigerians irrespective of class that every Nigerian should have the security that comes with good health care. The PUP believes strongly that no Nigerian should be denied medical treatment because of financial destitution and no one should have to choose between taking their sick child to a doctor and paying the rent.
We will set up laws that will mandate insurance companies to cover Nigerians with pre-existing medical conditions. PUP intend to set up a mechanism on healthcare that will make life easier for our citizens, for example setting up affordable medical insurance policies that will be able to cover Nigerians leaving in both rural and urban areas. PUP will also set up clinics in villages and introduce the General Practice (GP) System all over Nigeria to give easy access to medical attention. In addition, PUP intends to facilitate the setting up of a medical city in Nigeria in collaboration with private investors. This will include a 300,000 bed hospital, a kidney and heart transplant centre with the necessary medical facilities that will equal what is obtainable in the developed world.
